Your Children’s Health

In today’s fast paced society, it’s plain to see that the health of our nation’s children is in crisis. Obesity rates are at the highest levels ever putting millions of children at risk for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease and diabetes. Sadly, obesity and many of these chronic diseases will follow them into adulthood – and it’s the children who will end up paying the ultimate price as they grow older.

The junk food industry spends $33 billion dollars per year to convince your children that it’s normal to consume several servings of sodas, junk food, fast food, candy and other processed foods each day. At the same time, the increased use of computers and computer games has drastically reduced the levels of physical activity that our children get – and this is a recipe for disaster.

Research Proves It

What we already know. People do not eat to live, they live to eat. Personal preference (taste) is their first priority, whether it provides the nutrition their body needs to live comes in at a distant third place. In between is the commodity valued higher than health, the almighty dollar, price.

As the survey found, whether or not food is healthy is not the top priority among Americans when it comes to buying food. What is? For 88 percent of Americans, taste, and for another 72 percent, price. Only then does the health factor come in. Yes, the health aspect of the diet choice placed a distant third for most people.

Newsletter Glitch :-(

There is evidently a glitch in our newsletter sending. When I went to send this month’s newsletter last night, I noticed that last month’s had not been sent to everyone. I am working on it, and hoping everyone will get one and only one of each newsletter. If you did not receive one of the newsletters, you can send a blank email to either of these auto responders to get whichever issue you missed - or both. If your email program has trouble with the html (your e-newsletter comes "messed up" looking) you can email me directly for a text version, using the "email us" link on the Resource page.

One Candidate Race?

Filed under: Just 'from me' — Lisa @Me & My House @ 9:46 am

"Reports that Ron Paul has quit the Presidential Race remind me of Mark Twain’s famous "Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated." The Ron Paul Presidential campaign continues, albeit at a different pace.

"What does that mean?

"Ron Paul will continue to contest the remaining primaries. Ron Paul’s name will be on all the remaining state ballots."

    Ron Paul 2008 ~ March 8, 2008

Ron Paul 2008 - Hope for America

We’ve been sold a bill of goods, that there is only one republican candidate left, and we must vote for him as the lesser of evils. We’ve been led to believe that he represents conservatism in America today, and we must all "give" a bit, and not be so "stuck" in our "uncooperative" ways. It’s a lie.

We have remaining a steadfast candidate, whom the mainstream media ignores, who stands for our Constitution, who alone is standing for the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness (private property earned by personal industry) for the individual, who stands for our representative government in the fashion our founders envisioned, against the tyranny of Big Brother or the "nanny state".

There is no other current candidate worthy of our vote than Ron Paul. I will not "throw my vote away" by violating my conscience in voting for the "lesser of evils". My God is still on the throne, and I will stand for what is right, no matter the outcome and leave the results to Him.

Daniel 3:17-18 "If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up."

Tagged - Seven Random Things About Me

Filed under: Just 'from me' — Lisa @Me & My House @ 7:57 am

Tracy tagged me for this. (Beautiful pics on your blog Tracy!)

7 Random or Weird Things About Me and 7 People are Tagged (at the end)

OK, everything about me is probably weird, but as to whether it’s stuff most people don’t know - that might be hard.

1. I love carbs. I’d come home after school in high school and eat a half loaf of bread in cinnamon toast. (That’s for all of you who know I am a whole foods - no refined grains or sugars person.)

2. I love nursing my babies. None of our 10 ever had a bottle.

3. I LOVE cloth diapers. I keep sewing more, different styles, even when all the old ones aren’t all worn out. I still have some of the first ones I made over 20 years ago.

4. I love my sheep skin “things”. I have “woolies” (lamb skins) for our babies and grandbabies (3 woolies at our house), woolie toys for the babies, a woolie under our sheets on our bed, and now slippers that I wear around the house all the time, and to run someone in the car if I don’t have to go in. I want sheep wool flip flops now.

5. I hate dirt and sweat. Even as a child, I’d change clothes if a bit got on them.

6. I hate sports. Can’t play any and don’t want to, and see no sense in wasting time watching them.

7. I hate one level houses, especially “ranch” style, newer houses.

Here are the rules:

* 1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
* 2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
* 3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
* 4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Tagged are:

Hmm, “every” blogger I “know” I either tagged on the last thing, or I’ve seen their names tagged for this already. So would 7 of you readers please just tag yourself and leave a comment below and a link to your post so others can read and meet you. (Or 14 of you - I just got a second tag by Jennifer on my home ed blog)

True Value

Filed under: For the Family — Lisa @Me & My House @ 6:19 pm

It is amazing, I think, that in America, one of if not the richest countries in the world, parents think they can’t "afford" children. The poorest of our people are richer than many (most?) in the world. The problem is we can’t afford children AND all the toys and self-indulgences we want (and to give the children those same things so we don’t feel so guilty about getting them for ourselves or look not as "with it" as the neighbors.)

God help us for valuing the things of the world above eternal things.

Blessings to all of my children. Who are all loved more than anything this world has to offer. Each of you is SO worth all that I have ever "done without".

Great Quote

Just had to send this quote from Dr. Mercola along. "We" (our society) always thinks we will have warnings and then we will do something about it - meds or lifestyle/eating changes. Not.

Ask anyone what the most common symptom of a heart attack is, and most people will say “chest pain.” Well, this is incorrect. The most common symptom of a heart attack is sudden death.

Passionate Housewives on FamilyLife Today

Filed under: For the Family — Lisa @Me & My House @ 2:02 pm

I received this from Vison Forum today.

"Vision Forum is pleased to announce that our bestselling book, Passionate Housewives Desperate for God, will be featured on the FamilyLife Today broadcast on March 13-14, 2008. Hosted by Dennis Rainey and Bob Lepine, FamilyLife Today airs daily on more than 800 Christian radio outlets nationwide.

From the FamilyLife Today website:

Home Sweet Home: The Center of Evangelism 3/13/2008 (Day 1 of 2)
Does motherhood leave you little time for ministry? If that’s what you’ve thought, you might want to reconsider. On today’s broadcast, Jennie Chancey and Stacy McDonald, co-authors of the book Passionate Housewives Desperate for God, tell Dennis Rainey how a woman’s home can be her greatest outreach for the gospel, especially when she’s training her children or reaching out to friends or neighbors.

Redefining Womanhood 3/14/2008 (Day 2 of 2)
Mother of eight, Jennie Chancey, and mother of ten, Stacy McDonald, join award-winning author and speaker Dennis Rainey for today’s broadcast. Jennie and Stacy, co-authors of the book Passionate Housewives Desperate for God, encourage wives and mothers to remember their high calling and to look forward to the legacy they’re leaving behind.

We are grateful for this opportunity to tell millions of Christians about Passionate Housewives Desperate for God."
