Passionate Housewives on FamilyLife Today

Filed under: For the Family — Lisa @Me & My House @ 2:02 pm

I received this from Vison Forum today.

"Vision Forum is pleased to announce that our bestselling book, Passionate Housewives Desperate for God, will be featured on the FamilyLife Today broadcast on March 13-14, 2008. Hosted by Dennis Rainey and Bob Lepine, FamilyLife Today airs daily on more than 800 Christian radio outlets nationwide.

From the FamilyLife Today website:

Home Sweet Home: The Center of Evangelism 3/13/2008 (Day 1 of 2)
Does motherhood leave you little time for ministry? If that’s what you’ve thought, you might want to reconsider. On today’s broadcast, Jennie Chancey and Stacy McDonald, co-authors of the book Passionate Housewives Desperate for God, tell Dennis Rainey how a woman’s home can be her greatest outreach for the gospel, especially when she’s training her children or reaching out to friends or neighbors.

Redefining Womanhood 3/14/2008 (Day 2 of 2)
Mother of eight, Jennie Chancey, and mother of ten, Stacy McDonald, join award-winning author and speaker Dennis Rainey for today’s broadcast. Jennie and Stacy, co-authors of the book Passionate Housewives Desperate for God, encourage wives and mothers to remember their high calling and to look forward to the legacy they’re leaving behind.

We are grateful for this opportunity to tell millions of Christians about Passionate Housewives Desperate for God."

Follow Up on ‘What School?’

Filed under: For the Family — Lisa @Me & My House @ 1:44 pm

Just a statement I came across about what William Wilberforce had to say about such issues, as a follow up to my post on ‘What School?‘, and the still exploding topic brought on, this time, by Pulpit magazine.

I have seen a letter of Wilberforce, probably dating from the 1790s, in which he advises a friend that the public schools are too damaging to a boy’s faith to make it wise for a Christian father to send a son to one of them.

What School?

Filed under: For the Family — Lisa @Me & My House @ 1:50 pm

I finally was able to read the article that has caused so much buzz in the blogging world this week. The Pulpit magazine article on Home, Private or Public School kept freezing up my browser, but I finally got it to work in a different one. The article was full of theological and educational confusion.

After stating that the pitfalls of public schools were "humanistic philosophies taught at the expense of biblical truth, ungodly teachers and classmates seeking to influence our children, and the absence of spiritual or moral considerations", the article goes on to say that Christian schools may not be able to offer the "quality and depth of education that public schools can offer" and that schools are "vital to a child’s overall development".

The article tells us to make our decision "using biblical principles" and "knowing the Word", but also tells us those things won’t determine which is right. It is (in their words) a decision made on a "case by case basis," "knowing the schools in your area, and knowing each of your children." What? Which is it? Does the Bible speak to this or not? If it does, what else do we need to know?

The article itself doesn’t say anything in particular for or against home education, but points the reader to a "helpful" 2 part article by a noted blogger on why he doesn’t homeschool or have his children in Christian school. The article begins by telling us its an area we have "freedom" in Christ in, and it’s an areas of "weaker and stronger Christians." What happened to using those biblical principles and knowing the Word? Oh yeah, the Word can’t make those decisions for you.

When Christian parents are given this kind of "advise" from Christian leaders, no wonder so many of them "struggle in determining what’s best for their children’s education."

For a more biblical perspective here is a link to a great response to the article by Richard Jones.

We Cannot Cease Speaking

Filed under: For the Family — Lisa @Me & My House @ 6:03 pm

"Warning: Offensive post to Sunday-only Christians ahead. Proceed with caution." Thus begins Scott Head’s post today at These are the Generations of...  on The Revival that the Church Doesn’t Know About.

"We struggle with discussing the issue of sound Biblical doctrine, multi-generational vision, family worship, Biblical gender roles and the like because we know it easily offends those who also claim Christ but for some reason or another do not hold to these teachings in scripture. We struggle with how to discuss these things without being perceived as prideful or "holier than thou", or haughty. But in all honesty, we can’t cease speaking what the Bible says just so we don’t offend. Truth offends, it cuts, it bruises. If we speak the truth in love, we still offend, and that’s hard to endure. There IS a problem in the church today, it is a big, giant, trumpeting elephant in the room that everyone sees, but no one will discuss, because it will rock the boat. There ARE a vast group of people who come to church every Sunday but sit there stone faced and un-saved. There ARE preachers who do not preach the Word of God in all its convicting and edifying strength, …."

It is worth a click on over there to read the whole post.

This is cross-posted here because it truly is "For the Family".

Children ~ A Heritage

Filed under: For the Family, Our Family — Lisa @Me & My House @ 9:20 pm

How can children be so controversial, especially in Christian circles? It doesn’t seem to be so in Muslim circles, or Mormon circles, and it wasn’t in Christian circles prior to the mid-1900’s either. But it is today. So this post will no doubt be controversial. But I suppose most of mine are. They are just challenges to get you thinking, renewing your mind through God’s Word.

Over 18 years ago God changed our hearts in a way that changed our lives more than anything else besides our salvation itself. He placed within us a conviction and the faith to trust our childbearing to Him.

Those 18 years have brought us 6 more children here on earth, and 2 more gone before us. Had we not submitted to Him in this area, we don’t know if He would have "overrode" our decisions, or given us over to our "own desires", but there’s a pretty good chance that we would be "empty nesters" now, instead of having a home full of toddlers to teens.

I would be done home educating our children, instead of having at least 15 years left to go. I would have changed and sewn far less diapers, and spent far less time in the rocking chair nursing a wee one. And far less time trying to teach teens (and advise young adults) to reason biblically, rather than make foolish decisions.

I’d be cooking meals for 2 now, not 8. Hmm, actually I’d be cooking, instead of having the help of our dd 16yo, and ds 13yo, and ds 10yo, and dd 8yo. I’d be doing laundry 2 days a week instead of 6. Hmm, all the above mentioned do their own on the other days. I’d be reading, writing and teaching others that I may never see or know my influence on or their coming and going, through the internet, instead of my own children in my own home that I have daily for 18+ years to influence and guide in God’s ways.

Some of you may be saying, those would be good things. But I believe God says differently. His Word says children are a blessing, a heritage of the Lord. His Word says we are to be fruitful and multiply. His Word says He made us one flesh (through the marriage covenant) because He seeks "godly seed." He desires that we marry, have children, and keep our homes. Them are fighting words for some of you, but they are the words of our Lord and Creator.

I have a high calling, to raise all the children that He should choose to give us, without trying to interfere with His plans. To say God can do anything He wants, and if He wants to give us a child He will do it whether we are rebelling against Him or obedient to Him is itself an attitude of rebellion to God’s rule over our lives. To say God has no say so in how many children we have is even more so.

God will do what He wants. And every knee will bow. The question is will they bow in obedient, humble submission, or will they be forced to bow as God overrules their rebellion against Him?

In many areas we have not conformed to our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ. We are a work in progress, as all His children are. But in this area He has given grace that we can walk in humble submission to His plan for our lives.

If you want to read more of our personal journey in this lifestyle click here. I hope to also post more Scriptures and Biblical reasoning on this in the future.

Introducing Voddie

Filed under: Resources, For the Family — Lisa @Me & My House @ 9:39 am

I may have mentioned something we’d come across by this man sometime last year, but today I want to do a little more comprehensive post. A little over a year ago we came across a pastor/writer/speaker who is speaking out on the Christian family. We’ve loved “running into” him in several places over the last year. We think you’ll enjoy him too. Many of these resources are free. Some are not, but once you read/listen to the free ones we think you’ll find the others worth the investment.

I think the first place we heard him was on Dennis Rainey’s Family Life Today radio show speaking on The Home is the Key. Shortly there after Kevin Swanson interviewed him on Generations, on Why the Southern Baptists are Losing 88% of the Next Generation. Then we read an article by him in Biblical Worldview magazine, Education: The Forgotten Key to Discipleship. I checked out his website where I ordered The Ever Loving Truth (of which there is a book by the same title) and I thought something else, but don’t see it at the moment.

Next I got The Centrality of the Home in Evangelism and Discipleship CD from the 2006 National Conference for Uniting Church and Family. We listened to him and Paul Washer answer questions, mainly from young people - Part 1 and Part 2. Recently I got the 2 messages that now comprise the Children of Caesar DVD set, from American Vision. And finally ordered the book, Family Driven Faith.

I’ve also found several short clips on YouTube, including Why I Believe the Bible. And links to several messages. And another blog that has a TON of links. (I haven’t checked them all out to make sure they are still there.

That should be enough links to introduce you to him. Hope you enjoy as much as I do.
