Judah Bible Curriculum review

Me and My House ministries

JBC is a complete Bible study curriculum for all ages.  It is a guide for actually studying the Bible itself, not through other texts or workbooks.  Each year you will go through the complete Bible, Genesis through Revelation, but not reading every chapter and verse.

This is done by dividing the Bible into 5 Themes, that describe what is happening governmentally.  Theme 1 is Creation and covers Genesis 1-11. Theme 2 is “The Plan of Redemption Begins”, Gen. 12-Ruth.  Theme 3, the “Kingdom of Israel” covers 1 Sam. – Malachi.  Theme 4, the “Kingdom of God” covers Matthew through John.  Theme 5 is the “Early Church”, Acts – Revelation.  The Old Testament is covered in one semester, and the New in the other, through several weekly topics in each Theme.  Each year you cover the same Themes, but different weekly topics.  Weekly topics are listed for 6 years, taking you through JBC twice in grade levels 1-12, once at a younger age, and again at a much deeper level at an older age.

Through JBC you teach “seed” ideas and principles through different “Keys”.  Each year you will study several Key Individuals, Key Events, Key Institutions, and Key Documents for each Theme, through “Key Sheets”.  These Key Sheets are used by the students, to help them extract useful information and ideas from the passage, and analyze and categorize them.  These help the students learn to reason from cause to effect, and to make application to their own lives.  Essay writing exercises can build off the Key Sheets.  The point is to develop concepts and principles, not just rote memorization of details.  Each student will produce a valuable Notebook of his study.  Much of the work with younger children can be done verbally, and they can develop their Notebooks through illustrations, and some Copywork.

The book contains the goals and philosophy of the curriculum, much information on how to implement JBC, and an orderly layout of the Themes, Keys, and Scriptures to teach.  Much added information for teaching the first few weeks is given to get you off to a good start as you are just learning how to use this study.  In addition, there are charts, diagrams, sample Key Sheets, and a content overview, to aid you further.  Teacher Training Tapes add even more help for your teaching, what to cover and how, and I highly recommend that you get them.

This Bible study is primarily to understand God’s purpose and Sovereignty in His Story, how He governs and man’s response to that, and how to apply that in our own lives, becoming self-governed under God and developing godly character in our lives.  JBC is considered “an entry level Principle Approach Bible curriculum”.  It is designed to help you and your students learn to reason from the Bible and think governmentally.  It is composed of a philosophy, methodology, and content necessary to develop Christian character and scholarship in our students and us.  I highly recommend it.
